This is such a no-trend trend. By that I mean, whether we see it in style magazines and runways or not, we still will rock it. Not only because of its practicability and versatility, it is also quite romantic - when you literally wear your boyfriend's shirt.
...You could even make a cropped shirt out of it; but be sure to ask before getting the scissors.
At some point, designers bought into it and it became a trend - men's wear inspired.
The boyfriend shirt can take you from day, to night, to the bedroom; which is where I like to think it originated from. You know, an impromptu sleepover at lé boyfriend's - a push-up bra, skinny jeans, and body-hug top certainly cannot afford a cozy cuddly good night's rest; but a loose fitting tee or shirt can, if you know what I mean.
I believe sleepwear designers got inspired by this, and decided to create sleep shirts for women. They come in different styles, fabrics, and often have suggestive inscriptions.
